Decide whether the trip is a city break, regional road trip, park-focused journey, rail corridor or northern expedition. A first trip rarely benefits from combining all of them.
Set a realistic transfer budget
Count airport time, rental-car pickup, ferry check-in, train schedules and hotel changes as travel time. A two-hour line on a map may consume much of a day.
Choose season before attractions
Season controls road access, daylight, park services, wildlife timing, ferry schedules and what clothing is required.
Book in the right order
- Entry documents and fixed international transport
- Scarce regional transport such as ferries, remote flights or rail cabins
- High-demand park access and accommodation
- Flexible city attractions and restaurants
